Calling After The Date: Should I Wait?
For quite some time, daters all over have contemplated an age old question: When is the right time to call a person back after a first date? It has been said that if a person calls or attempts to make a connection with someone they just dated, without waiting the proper amount of time, they will appear to be too eager or pushy, and therefore be unsuccessful in obtaining the much coveted second date. So, question of the year: How long is long enough to wait to make the call after a first date?
The good news is, everything is subjective. Your date will interpret things differently than anyone else might. This means that what might offend someone else may not necessarily offend her.
The bad news is that there really is no finite answer for when you should call.
The best advice I can offer you is to feel the situation out. Try to decide whether or not your date had a good time and would like to see you again as well. When you do call, go ahead and tell her you were nervous about calling. Make a joke out of it. This type of approach will lighten the mood and also make for an easy transition into asking for that second date.
If you are still worried about coming on too strong, then wait a few days until you feel comfortable. Remember that dating is a mutual experience. Just as much as you want to make your date feel good, you should allow yourself to feel safe and secure. Wait just until you’re ready. Throw in a joke or some other ice breaker, and be yourself. If you’re lucky, she’s already been waiting for your call. Take a breath and say hello.
